The District Connections Database (DCD) is the foundation of the state education data warehouse. Districts can choose to participate by allowing their student information system data to be loaded into the database. The data is visible only to district staff. TEA will provide student performance dashboards developed by the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF), which can be previewed at www.texasstudentdatasystem.org. Region 10, who is substantially involved with TEA and the MSDF in the development of the systems, will be developing reports and dashboards customized for districts, starting with our Reveal Dropout Early Warning System, which can be previewed at www.schoolviz.org.

PEIMS encompasses all data required by TEA to verify compliance for district funding, including student demographic, academic performance, personnel, financial, and organizational information. TEA is in a multi-year process of changing the PEIMS submission process to align with the new Texas Student Data System and ease the burden of the submissions. Region 10 is assisting TEA in this process and will stay at the forefront of the changes. Throughout the year, in addition to regular training and first-level support of PEIMS, Region 10 will be providing updates on the transformation of the system and what it will mean to schools and school districts.

Enterprise-level business and personnel information management requires unique and demanding standards and processes for Texas School districts. For example, account code formatting should be designed around Texas school accounting. For these reasons, Region 10 has chosen Prologic’s TEAMS® business software solution. TEAMS® is a Texas-owned and Texas focused company. TEAMS® is built on integrated business rules that leverage a Texas look-and-feel and a Texas workflow. The software layers internal reports, ad-hoc query, state reporting, and custom configuration for a truly high-functioning solution. Conversion, hosting, training, and support are provided by SchoolViz staff, which also provide support for custom reporting.

The use of actionable data for school districts is becoming increasingly important. Districts have collected piles of data that must be interpreted and presented in support of the decision-making process. Region 10 provides solutions to streamline and automate the process of turning data into usable information, often cutting delivery time from days and weeks into hours or minutes. Building on the foundation of the Empower Data Warehouse and the new state data model, Region 10 is developing custom applications specific to school district needs. The first of these applications can be previewed at http://www.schoolviz.org/educationsolutions/reveal_data_analytics.

The two State-sponsored Student Information Systems, Skyward® and TxEIS®, will provide automatic data input into the DCD. The state contracts with these vendors provide for lower license and conversion costs; vendor hosting, which eliminates the need for district purchase of hardware; robust additions to the software; and, in the case of Skyward®, the possibility to choose between the vendor and the Service Center for phone and email support.

The State of Texas has embarked on a new data management system for Texas schools. It is designed to provide actionable data on student performance, going well beyond PEIMS. A district can authorize data to be loaded from its student information system into the District Connections Database (DCD), providing performance dashboards and other tools that empower teachers and instructional staff to greater diagnose existing and potential problems in student learning. For more information, go to www.texasstudentdatasystem.org.

Region 10 announces a new set of services for districts small and large who need assistance maximizing their internal networks and Internet access. Our Vision Network Services leverages access to a variety of network architecture, engineering, and management experts through cost effective pooling of resources and customers, allowing us to provide these experts to your district at a lower rate, eliminating the need to hire expensive staff. You can pay for a specific service when it is completed, or maintain a service contract with us (at an even lower rate) for specific hours of service per month.
