Campus Security Audit Service

Each school district is required to conduct a security audit of facilities at least once every three years with the results reported to the board. Districts must follow procedures developed by the Texas Center for School Safety, The Center for Safe and Secure Schools, a Regional Education Service Center, or some other comparable private or public agency.

The Security Audit provided by Region 10 ESC represents the minimum audit recommended by the service center.

Districts are encouraged to supplement the ESC findings with any additional information available and appropriate for the audit.

The service provides a Lead Auditor from Region 10 to work with one or more district staff members. The on-site work will be completed in one day. Lead Auditors will require an additional day to prepare the written report. The one-day audit will focus on facility entrances, lock down and other emergency procedures, and limited safety inspections. Audits must be conducted during regular school days.

The procedures used by Region 10 are:

  • District submits service request to Region 10.
  • District appoints staff members to assist the Lead Auditor.
  • Lead Auditor will work with the administration to schedule the inspection of each facility.
  • The principal will prepare staff for the audit using notes provided by ESC 10.
  • The principal will provide all documents, records, and make all arrangements required by Lead Auditor.
  • The audit team will conduct the audit through on-site inspection, examination of documents and records, observations, interviews, and any other means necessary to conduct the audit.
  • Lead Auditor will collect, assimilate, and analyze all information collected by the audit team.
  • The written audit report will be submitted to the principal or facility contact within 60 days of the on-site inspection.
  • The Lead Auditor will present a verbal report to the principal.
  • The superintendent will prepare the audit report to the board using the audit reports for each facility and any additional data and information available from other sources that reflects on the security of children while at school.

Delivery of the audit report to the board is documented in the official board minutes.
