You will learn experientially through (1) facilitator modeling of quality questioning and (2) personal engagement in collaborative learning strategies that you can transfer to your own classroom.

In this one-day workshop, participants will create a mental model of poverty, review poverty research, examine a theory of change, and analyze poverty through the prism of hidden rules of class, resources, family structure, and language. The seminar puts into words what many veteran professionals have experienced.
Though the workshop, participants will receive specific strategies for improving outcomes for people living in poverty, but the focus of the workshop is to provide a broad overview of concepts.
Gary G. Eagleton worked with the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department where he first began to build programs for students from diverse economic backgrounds. In the Goose Creek ISD Gary was involved in implementation of the city of Baytown’s first gang activity prevention program and replication of the Communities in Schools - Baytown program. He has replicated "stay in school" models through Communities in Schools, Inc. (CIS) and school reform models through Project GRAD (Graduation Really Achieves Dreams) USA throughout the United Sates.

How much have you heard about bullying and harassment this year? This is by far one of the hottest topics in the education world. However, as anyone who has dealt with bullying can tell you, the real-life situations often raise difficult and complex questions. What is the difference between teasing, playground antics, and bullying? Where does harassment fit in? Can an action be both bullying and harassment? What about off-campus conduct? How much can schools do to address cyberbullying? Come and find out the law regarding these and other questions as we explore some of the more difficult issues surrounding bullying and harassment. Situations involving student-to-student behavior, as well as situations involving adults, will be discussed. In addition, changes that will take place in bullying policies for the 2012-2013 school year will be highlighted.
