This session provides thoughtful, practical strategies for your success in your role as a new school leader. You will learn how to make pro-active choices and address your school concerns on a daily basis. During this three-hour workshop, you will be actively involved discussing ideas and strategies that will be shared from the practical experiences of former assistant principals and principals. Harold Kellogg serves as a program coordinator for the Division of Administration at Region 10. Prior to coming to Region 10, Mr. Kellogg was a principal in the Richardson Independent School District. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and his Master’s degree from Texas A&M-Commerce.
Lorna Bonner is an administrative consultant for the Division of Administration at Region 10. Ms. Bonner received her MA from San Francisco State University and BS from Buffalo State University. She has worked as a building school principal, mini-school coordinator, reading specialist, and classroom teacher.
Joe Arnold is an administrative consultant for the Division of Administration at Region 10. His responsibilities include all 504 Issues and the Purchasing Consortium.
Gina Mitchell is the regional dyslexia consultant at Region 10. Her responsibilities include staff development, 800 line support, and district dyslexia plan consultation.

Accountability and Learning in a 21st Century Environment (How to Use the Newest Technology in the Classroom)
The current world crises are a reminder that business as usual in all facets of life is no longer applicable. Yet, our education system continues on the same path despite the dire consequences that may result from this action. Leadership in the flat world, as described by Thomas Friedman in his book The World Is Flat, requires different strategies. Educators need to focus on principles that have made our nation great and capitalize on technology resources that insure every student has a chance to reach his or her optimum potential. This session will offer school administrators the opportunity to learn of technological best practices that will inspire them to take the leap into the 21st Century, including
Sam Farsaii is a veteran teacher, administrator, and technology coordinator. He is currently serving as Director of Instructional Technology in Irving. Mr. Farsaii has worked with numerous organizations and districts supporting technology integration across the nation. As an international presenter he recognizes the power of technology and its impact on inspiring global learners. His contributions include creating the Texas Robotics Contest, collaborating with the Gates Foundation to train principals and superintendents, and serving on the Texas Compute Education Association (TCEA) Board of Directors. He is presently the chair-elect for the International Society for Technology in Education for SIG 1-1, supporting laptop implementation across the world.

Legal Issues Impacting Students
Student achievement is the result of some factors, many of which go beyond the academic. Serving the total student means dealing with all aspects of student life, including legal issues that have far-reaching consequences. Information gained in this session will help participants sort out what they need to know in order to do their jobs and learn where to draw the line on the school’s involvement in family law disputes. This session will cover
In addition, having a working knowledge of all these legal issues will help participants in dealing with the day-to-day requests and questions that arise in dealing with students.
Lydia Perry has a B.A., Baylor University; Gamma Beta Phi, Honors Program, Cum Laude; J.D., Baylor Law School; Dean’s List. Admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Texas, the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas, and the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Member of Council of School Attorneys of the National Association of School Boards, the Council of School Attorneys for the State of Texas, and the Association of School Boards.

Elementary Mathematics in Action
In this session, participants will observe research informed practices that will promote application of learning through critical thinking and problem solving. We will demonstrate quality lessons by using videos of elementary classroom students solving problems using manipulatives and pictorial models. This session will also provide the PDAS appraiser with characteristics of effective instructional practices that can be used during walkthroughs and formal observations. Participants will
Penelope Hoard serves as the elementary mathematics consultant for Region 10. She is an award winning education with 13 years of experience as a classroom teacher and staff development instructor. Her recognitions include being named District Teacher of the Year in 2007. Ms. Hoard comes with experience that includes working with elementary and middle school campuses with high percentages of low socioeconomic students. Prior to coming to Region 10, she served as Mathematics Department chair on a middle school campus that was named by Texas Monthly Magazine as one of the best middle schools in Texas.
