Skill Assessment of Principals (SKAP)

Developer/Owner/Licensee:

SKAP is developed and managed by the Region 10 Education Service Center. It provides a set of activities that meet the SBEC requirement of "job alike" activities.

Type of Instrumentation:

The SKAP is is designed to assess the skills of the administrator who has 1-3 years experience as a principal or is an assistant principal.  The SKAP is a one-day interactive simulation in which participants will engage in four (4) activities that simulate the responsibilities of an administrator: Complete a self-analysis, respond to several job-alike scenarios, develop a case study, and discuss the case study in a cluster/group exchange. Each activity is followed by a reflective piece. A detailed results follow-up report identifies overall performance on each dimension and lists resources that can be accessed for personal professional developmental planning.

Scoring:

Each participant will complete all activities and an assigned assessor will complete an evaluation and provide a written report along with feedback. The feedback session will ultimately result in a professional development plan tailored to the specific needs of the principal.

Target Audience for the Assessment:

SKAP is designed to assess the skills of the principal or an assistant principal who has 1-3 years of administrative experience.

Level of Developmental Plan:

SKAP is designed to produce a developmental plan for the entry level (beginning) administrator.

Other Resources:

A single assessor will conduct a follow-up feedback session and collaboratively assist in developing a professional growth program for the assessee.

Limitations on Size of Assessment Group:

There are limitations on the size of the assessment group. A maximum of ten (10) principals may participate in a SKAP session due to the nature of the role-playing activities.
