This session addresses the unique challenges faced by secondary schools seeking to increase parent involvement. Participants will discuss the limitations of traditional approaches to parent involvement and will identify innovative models and approaches. Topics to be addressed include: building relationships with all families, establishing advocacy and support systems for at-risk families, fostering family support for academic achievement and post-secondary planning, and promoting community involvement.

This session addresses strategies for developing family support for student’s literacy development in an elementary campus environment. Participants will learn to translate the basic principles of literacy development into simple terms that parents can understand. Participants will be introduced to a series of Interactive Literacy Activities (ILA) that can be shared with families through campus-based family literacy programming. Additional resources for supporting family literacy initiatives will also be explored.

This session will address issues related to the lack of parent support for homework at the middle school level and will provide participants with training on the TIPS Interactive Homework model developed at John’s Hopkins University. Participants will receive a compact disk with other 500 homework activities designed to increase parent and child interaction.

This session addresses activities that schools can use to engage families while meeting the parent involvement requirements for state and federal programs. Participants will receive tools for planning, promoting and evaluating parent involvement programming. Engaging, innovative strategies for sharing information with parents and fostering active parent participation will also be explored.

Through this service Region 10 will collaborate with districts, businesses, and community based organizations to coordinate Community Resource Fairs in county clusters. This service will focus on connecting schools and families with community resources toward the goal of increased school, home and community partnership.

Path to Scholarships is an academic, motivational blueprint for successful dropout prevention. It empowers all students to pursue post-secondary education thus reducing the dropout rate and increasing the graduation rate motivating all students to do above average things. This seminar will enable participants to walk students through the scholarship search and application process step by step.
(24 hours, Grades 7 -12)
In this four session series educators will engage in the ongoing exploration of issues related to parent involvement in schooling. Participants completing the series will be prepared to offer trainings on parent involvement in their school communities. Topics to be addressed include Planning for Family Involvement, Promoting Social Emotional Learning through Family Engagement, Building Relationships with Families in Culturally and Economically Diverse Communities, Developing Family Support for Increased Student Achievement.
(6 hours per day, Grades K-12)
This session will address the Title I, Part A requirements for parent involvement. Strategies for developing and implementing parent involvement policies at the district and campus levels will be addressed. Campus based School Parent Compacts will be discussed as well.

This two-day session addresses strategies and systems for meeting the needs of culturally diverse learners. At the end of this session the participants will acquire the necessary knowledge to ensure the success of all learners in general education. Topics to be addressed include: Principles of cultural proficiency, second language acquisition and standard English acquisition, establishing systems of supports and culturally responsive instruction.
