To schedule a parent workshop in your district or on your campus, please contact Terri Walker at terri.walker@region10.org or (972) 348-1396.
Parents are the first and foremost teachers in the lives of their children. Parents have influence on their children before the school receives them, and retain that influence throughout the students’ school years. Parents are Teachers Too! is a series of workshops that supports learning at home across the curriculum. Participants will investigate strategies that support parents’ active participation in their children’s education. Activities will include school volunteerism and home learning experiences that require minimal parental prior knowledge and materials.
This workshop is designed to introduce parents to the Texas’ most comprehensive assessment program ever. Presenters will cover basic yet pertinent TAKS information as well as shed light on how our state’s system aligns with national / federal initiatives toward academic success for all students. Participants will leave with answers to frequently asked TAKS questions, such as: When will my child be tested? Which subject areas are tested? What’s on the test? How does this test relate to other national / federal accountability programs? What happens if my child does not meet the standard? Where can I go for additional resources? Sessions are offered at elementary, middle school, or high school levels.
This session will show parents in assisting their children to get into college with federal aid and state funding (HB1403) for undocumented students. FAFSA will also be presented and parents will receive the information on filing applications.
This four session parent/student series will address the basics of college planning. Beyond the Cap and Gown is a two-hour parent session providing an overview of the college application process including options for financial aid.. Completing the College Application is a two-hour student session that guides students through the college application process. Completing the FAFSA is a two-hour student session that explains the technicalities of applying for Federal financial aid. Path to Scholarships is a five-hour student workshop that helps students identify scholarship opportunities and guides them through scholarship application process.
