Collaboration Elaboration: Strategies for Working with Teachers (K-6, 7-12) NEW
Student success is enhanced by the partnership between library personnel and classroom teachers. In this workshop, participants will explore current children’s literature, young adult literature, and activities that will extend comprehension from the classroom to the library. Participants will walk away with a greater understanding of how award-winning books, Web 2.0 tools, and content area standards work together to support student success across content areas.

Based on survey data from 900 adult readers and students' assessments, Donalyn Miller, author of The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child, identifies the specific characteristics of wild readers and methods that support students’ development into lifelong readers. During this workshop, attendees will reflect on their reading lives, discuss the school, library, and classroom-based conditions that foster wild reading, and examine high-interest texts and technology tools that engage young readers.

Gretchen McCord, a former librarian and current lawyer whose expertise includes copyright issues for schools and libraries, will help you understand the law and give you the tools you need to analyze situations you confront daily and to confidently make decisions. Research Rocks: Reaping the Benefits of Classroom and Library Collaboration (K-6) (7-12)
Participants will explore research as an information problem-solving process and ways the library can support the new ELAR TEKS research strand. Both librarians and teachers will examine research-related materials and strategies to be used in the library and/or classroom.
Social (Studies) Networking for Librarians: TEKS Support (K-12) NEW
The newly revised Social Studies TEKS and library collections/programming go hand and hand. While focusing on the readiness and supporting standards, participants will analyze the Social Studies TEKS, identify the standards that are most relevant to librarians and discuss ways to network with teachers. Library staff will also explore methods to ensure library resources support the research of historical figures and events listed in the Social Studies TEKS.
Book Repair 101
Can’t afford to replace those well-loved and often-circulated titles? Learn to repair treasured books and stretch your limited budgets. Participants will view demonstrations and will gain hands-on experience in book repair techniques. Free book repair materials will be provided!

CSCOPE for Librarians (K-12) NEW
Are you interested in supporting your classroom teachers in the implementation of CSCOPE?
This session will provide an overview of the basics of CSCOPE and will focus on the tools that librarians can use to extend CSCOPE into the library program.
ELAR TEKS for Librarians (K-12)
Librarians will examine the English Language Arts/Reading TEKS and will discuss the implications of these state standards for school libraries in the area of library programming and collection development. Participants will also explore how library support of these standards can help students be successful on new state assessments.
Exploring the State-Funded K-12 Databases (K-12)
Librarians will explore the TEKS-correlated lesson plans that are based on the state-funded K-12 databases. The wealth of free training materials and promotional materials available to all Texas school libraries will be examined.
Kapow! Using Graphic Novels in the Library (3-12)
The working definition of “21st Century Literacies” adopted by National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) includes “analyzing and synthesizing multiple streams of simultaneous information.” What can better accomplish this than graphic novels? In this workshop, librarians will explore a brief history of comics/graphic novels, become familiar with the components of graphic novels, review the benefits of using graphic novels with students of all reading levels, and review some of the most recently published graphic novels for tweens and teens. This session is designed for both the novice and the enthusiast of graphic novels
Librarians Go Google! (K-12) NEW
If you can’t beat them, join them! Google is a part of our world and savvy librarians recognize the need to learn how to incorporate Google tools and effective searching strategies into their library programming. Participants will explore tools such as Google Custom Search Engines, advanced search strategies to teach Google literacy.

Library shelves getting crowded? Not sure what to weed? Attend this CREW Weeding Method workshop to help with those tough decisions. Participants will receive the newest CREW Weeding manual.
