The following is a list of workshops that a campus and/or a district may request for training at their site by contacting Kerry Gain, as well as a list of workshops that will be offered at Region 10 throughout the 2006-2007 school year.
AYP Update
Join us for an update of the changes to the AYP/federal accountability system including: number requirements for subgroups; how to calculate improvement measure; discussion of standards for 06-07 and beyond; guidelines for calculating participation; and how the federal cap is changing. (3 hour offering)
Bringing Rigor and Relevance to Your Classrom
This training from the International Center for Educational Leadership focuses teachers on bringing "real world" activites to their classrooms without sacrificing higher levels of thinking. The Application Model will be taught and cross-referenced with Bloom's Taxonomy. Participants will learn to use themodel in the morning and plan a unit using the model in the afternoon. Participants will be required to bring a copy of their TEKS to this workshop. (6 hour offering)
Assesment Strategies
Higher level question stems, rubrics, use of graphic organizers, and data analysis are just a few of the 8 strategies that will be presented in this workshop. Teachers who attend will be able to breathe new life into their old assessments and create new and more rigorous assessments. (3 hour offering)
I've Given A Test, Now What?
What needs to occur after an assessment is given? The focus of this session is on what should happen after an(y) assessment is given to improve the instructional process. Data analysis, tracking student learning goals, developing strong rubrics, and using data to drive instruction will all be addressed. (3 hour offering)
2006 TAKS Data Analysis
Using district and/or campus TAKS results, participants will learn to use the Data Analysis Tool. Using this tool gives teachers and administrators an opportunity to visually represet their TAKS results and analyze the reasons behind those results. This workshop also includes opportunities to plan instructional intervention if necessary. Educators who attend must bring an Item Analysis Summary Report for teh 2006 TAKS test. (2 - 6 hour offering)
Creating Lessons that Connect with Kids
A challenge for many teachers is to engage learners in the lesson. This interactive workshop is full of strategies for creating lessons that connect with students and is based on teh idea that students who experience the lesson are more likely to be successful and retain content. Demosntration lessons will be presented. (3 hour offering)
The Business of Benchmarking
Is your district or campus ready to begin a benchmarking process? Are you already benchmarking your students but need to redefine those tests? This workshop offers research based strategies on building strong benchmarks that adequately assess a district's curriculum. (3 hour offering)
Assessment for Learning
Moving from assessment of learning to asessment for learning is a big leap for many districts and campuses. This workhsop will walk participants through strategies that focus on assessing accurately and using assessment to benefit students so that classroom assessments truly drive instruction. (6 hour offering)
Resources for Students in Crisis
This workshop includes a number of strategies and resources that were originally developed for working with the displace students from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, but are strategies and resources that can be applied to any group of students who are in crisis. The theories of Ruby Payne will be addressed along wtih research dealing with the effects of trauma. (3 hour offering)
