Bible Literacy - H.B. 1287
This legislation calls for the Texas Education Code (TEC) to be amended to authorize a school district to offer elective high school courses on the Bible's Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and New Testament. (The Bible course may be offered like any other elective course that the district offers.)
Released TAKS
Senate Bill 1031 changed the schedule for the release of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests from two to three years. Based on this legislation, the Student Assessment Division developed a new release plan and presented it to the State Board of Education (SBOE) for its approval. This plan has two parts: an every-third-year release of all tests and, in non-release years, a release of some representative items that have been field-tested but are no longer eligible for inclusion on an actual test. The new release plan for TAKS was approved by the SBOE at its September 2008 board meeting and is now posted to the Student Assessment Division’s website.
In summer 2009 the Student Assessment Division will release all TAKS tests administered during the 2008–2009 school year. This release includes all Student Success Initiative (SSI) and exit level retests.
EOC Implementation Plan as of Fall 2008
In spring 2009, EOC physics and world geography field tests will be administered for the first time. Physics EOC field test will be online only. World geography EOC field test will be administered both online and paper-based. Selected campuses will participate in either physics or world geography EOC field testing.
