Requests for assistance should be made through the building principal and the special education director for the local district/SSA.

Technical assistance may include:

  • Current information about best practices and innovative programs
  • Evaluation
  • Current research
  • Service-delivery models
  • Certification and licensure
  • Rules and regulations

Staff Development

One of the major roles of this program is to provide quality staff development that facilitates service delivery to students who have communication disorders. Another key function is to provide quality training that will enable licensed speech pathologists to remain current in their knowledge and skills as well as obtain the continuing education hours required for annual licensure renewal. While most staff development activities coordinated by this program may be found in the Region 10 Special Education Staff Development On-Line Catalog, additional information may be made available through special flyers, brochures, and SLP supervisor listserv.

TETN/TWU Speech-Language Pathology Master’s Degree Program

via Distance Learning

The TETN/TWU learning venue is designed to allow students to work in the schools as a licensed assistant while completing the requirements for the master's degree.  This learning venue is supported in part by a grant from the Texas Education Agency and provides training opportunities for candidates who wish to practice speech-language pathology in the schools of Texas.  Successful completion of the program prepares graduates to apply for Texas licensure in speech pathology and for ASHA certification.  Candidates who do not wish to work in Texas schools are not eligible for admission to this program.

A sixth cycle is in session.  See program dates found on the Region 10 TWU Master's Degree Program webpage

History

A collaborative, statewide program providing a master’s degree in speech-language pathology via distance learning began a fifth cycle in August 2009.  All Region 10 special education directors were notified of the continuation of the program in the spring and summer of 2008.  Attendance of a four-hour information meeting was required before an applicant could be considered for participation in the graduate program.  These statewide meetings were held in September through November of 2008.  Applications for Cycle 5 were received by TWU on or before December 15, 2008.  Individuals accepted into the program were notified by TWU on or before February 18, 2009.  Cycle Five graduate students will graduate in May 2011 with their master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
