TETN/TWU Speech-Language Pathology

Master’s Degree Program

via Distance Learning

In an effort to address the on-going shortage of master’s level speech-language pathologists in the schools, a partnership was formed among the Education Service Centers of Texas, Texas Woman’s University, the Texas Education Agency and local educational entities to provide a master’s degree program for both in-field and out-of-field students.

This program, fully accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, utilizes a combination of videoconferencing and web based instruction as well as clinical experiences on school campuses, in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, rehabilitation centers and special summer camps.

Information meetings to market the program were provided for out-of-field prospects in February and March of 2005.  Applications were submitted by April 15, 2005, students were notified of acceptance by early May and began their year of leveling work in June 2005.

Information meetings for prospects with a bachelor’s degree in speech therapy were held in the Fall of 2006, applications were submitted by December 15 and acceptances were received by February 2006.  All students began graduate coursework in June, 2006.  Cycle 4 students will graduate in August 2008.

Plans for a fifth cycle of this program have been announced.  Information meetings for Cycle 5 are planned for the following dates:  January 31, 2008, April 24, 2008, September 18, 2008, and November 11, 2008.  To be considered for the TETN/TWU Speech Pathology Master's Program, all applicants are required to attend one information meeting.  The Cycle Five graduate program will begin in August 2008 and the anticipated graduation date for this cycle is May 2011.  More detailed information can be obtained from the Texas Woman's University web page.
