Teacher Preparation and Certification
TPC Internship
Interns complete a one-year teaching assignment as Teacher of Record. They receive the salary and benefits of a first-year teacher or commensurate with credible years of experience.
A certified trained mentor teacher, who receives a $500 stipend from Region 10, is assigned to provide assistance and support. Administrative supervision from the district and from Region 10 is also provided.
Certification Requirements
- Demonstrate consistent application of effective teaching practices and attain proficient or above on teacher appraisal.
- Demonstrate consistent application of Texas Learner-Centered Teacher Proficiencies.
- Demonstrate professional ethics and participate in a professional manner within the school community.
- Attend and satisfactorily complete all required Region 10 training.
- Complete all record keeping and recommended remedial training activities.
- Complete all TPC Program requirements.
- Pass all required state certification examinations.
- Pass Texas Oral Proficiency Test (TOPT) Bilingual and LOTE interns only
- Receive certification recommendations from the local district, the TPC board, and Region 10 TPC.
Region 10 Education Service Center is committed to providing a high quality educator preparation program. Intensive training is based on research-based best practices, the TEKS, and the Texas Proficiencies for Teachers in Learner-Centered Schools. The program recognizes and is dedicated to the provision of a strong mentoring/support system to assist interns to succeed and improve student learning.
