The Generalist 4-8 certification is very versatile. School districts can hire you in one or more of the core subject areas: math, science, social studies, or language arts. A classroom setting offered in this certification area might include a self-contained 4th, 5th or 6th grade classroom, or an intermediate, middle, or junior high school core subject area classroom. Requirements for the Generalist 4-8 is 24 semester hours in a combination of the following subjects, with 6 hours in each area: English, mathematics, science, and social studies with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
