Teacher Preparation and Certification Teacher Preparation - and Certification

Welcome TPC Intern

Thank you so much for your willingness to undertake the many challenges of an internship, some of which include completing training requirements and state examinations for certification in this field-based program as well as effectively meeting the needs of your students throughout the year. This handbook has been organized to provide both general and specific program information.

Your campus administrator(s) has a key role in providing support and assistance this year. Administrators steer the pathway for “how things are done here” and have a vested interest in your success. In addition, providing feedback to Region 10 about your ongoing progress will be a role your administrator fulfills. As your internship begins, your campus administrator will assign a mentor teacher to provide you early assistance and ongoing support throughout the school year. Your mentor teacher will help you access district and campus procedural information as you begin your internship. In addition, Region 10 provides mentor training that is required in order for your mentor to receive the full $500 stipend for supporting you this year. A variety of options for attending and completing the six hours (3 face-to-face and 3 online) of training are provided. Encourage your mentor teacher to attend the mentor training early in the school year so you can begin accessing a variety of additional resources together.

The Texas Beginning Educator Support System (TxBESS) Framework that you received early in your training is a useful tool for reflective dialogue between you, your mentor and your Region 10 consultant. The TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) examination required before certification is also based on the TxBESS Framework. Over the year(s) ahead as a teacher, this resource will enable you to self-assess and determine your next steps for professional growth.

The Region 10 TPC website will continue to be an information source for you. To locate required forms and other resources, please visit the intern links at www.region10.org/tpc. In addition, any time you have questions concerning your certification process, please contact your Region 10 consultant. Best wishes as you begin your teaching career.
