Program Overview

 

Region 10 Teacher Preparation and Certification is a state accredited program which provides an opportunity for highly qualified individuals with bachelor’s degrees to gain teachercertification. A combination of rigorous coursework and field-based experience prepare participants to be successful, effective teachers.

 


 

Applicants complete an online application, submitting required documents.
A response is received via email or mail.


 

Candidates, individuals accepted into the program, complete the following requirements:

Orientation - Consultants explain the program and course requirements for certification areas.

Field-Based Experience - 30 hours of student contact experience through classroom observations and interaction. (Credit may be allowed for prior teaching experience.)

Coursework - Five core courses, online and face-to-face, provide foundational information, methodology, and effective practices.

Additional Tests -TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) EC-12 exam and/or other state-required certification exams. TPC provides reviews and practice tests for required exams.


 

Participants complete a teaching assignment in a school district, approved charter, or TEA approved private school through one of these options:

 

Internship- Interns complete two consecutive semesters in a paid teaching position.

Clinical Teaching Experience (CTE)- Selected candidates serve 15 weeks in a classroom in a nonpaid position working with a cooperating teacher/mentor.

 

Upon successful completion of all program requirements and internship, interns are recommended for a Texas Standard Teaching Certificate.
