SECTION 504 COOPERATIVE MEMBERSHIP

Membership is a basic service and provides the participating district access to a trained Section 504 consultant for the following purposes:

  • advisory consultation for problematic Section 504 issues which emerge at the campus or district level,
  • review of local procedures at the campus or district level to assure compliance with regulations and in establishing and maintaining appropriate documents, and
  • conducting in-district roundtable discussions to ensure that district personnel and/or campus designees will have an appropriate knowledge base of the legalities and procedural requirements of Section 504.

Additionally, member districts may send represenatives for a workshop with an attorney to provide members with practical and legal experience in the Section 504 process. The Region 10 ESC Section 504 consultant will maintain updated information regarding administrative and judicial decisions at the state and federal levels which may impact the districts. A trained mediator will be provided to districts to assist in conflict mediation between the district and Section 504 students and/or parents.
