SITE-BASED DECISION MAKING (SBDM) TRAINING

5 Topics with the following content are available:

  • SBDM Topic I:  Historical Context/Legislative Mandate
    Leads the team through an understanding of the development and purpose of SBDM in Texas. Legal mandates and SBOE Rules related to SBDM will be highlighted. Rules and law will be discussed in light of local interpretation and practice.
  • SBDM Topic II:  Collaborative Skills from DuPont Leadership Development Process
    Focuses on team training in four of the most used tools of collaboration from DuPont (Leadership Development Process). Those tools are meeting leading, task cycle, systems framework, and nominal group technique.
  • SBDM Topic III:  Team Skills (Intro to Conflict Resolution)
    Features the team skills of questioning, listening, giving and receiving feedback, and meeting management. An introduction of conflict resolution is an integral part of the training.
  • SBDM Topic IV:  Analytical Tools for Team Planning
    Uses brainstorming and three analytical tools from Total Quality Management(TQM) to demonstrate to teams the process of moving from a brainstorming session to the production of an actual plan. Tools included are: affinity diagram, relations diagram, and tree diagram.
  • SBDM Topic V:  Conflict Resolution/Facilitation
    Comprehensive activities and insights in dealing with group based conflict and facilitating the resolution of conflict in positive ways. This training is for the more mature team in terms of length of time together. Suggest that Team Skills training (Topic III) precede this training.

Registration by Teams Initiated by District Contact with the ESC Contact Assigned to the District.

School Board Members May Receive Level III School Board Training Credit for Participation in SDBM Training as Part of a SBDM District or Campus Team.
