FAN provides information on food allergies, the latest research on the topic and product alerts. The site also includes the FAN newsletter and a section of "fact or fiction".

 

Food and Nutrition Services (FNS)

FNS provides information about contracts and grants, the Food Stamp Program, WIC Program, Child Nutrition Programs, food distribution, Team Nutrition, and educational resources.

National Agricultural Library
The national Agricultural Library, part of the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is one of four National Libraries in the United States. NAL is a major international source for agriculture and related information. The web site provides access to NAL's many resources and a gateway to its associated institutions.

 

National Food Service Management Institute (NFSMI)
NFSMI Information Services provides all types of information or referrals about the Child Nutrition Programs and it's free. They answer questions and identify information in conjunction with the National Agricultural Library to lend materials. You may contact them and speak with an experienced school meal specialist, then receive printed information by download, fax, U.S. mail or e-mail.

SNA is a non-profit professional association representing 60,000 members of the school foodservice industry. Our headquarters are in Alexandria, Virginia. We are the only national association dedicated to protecting the enhancing children's health and well-being though school meals and sound nutrition education.

Team Nutrition

Team Nutrition is an initiative of the USDA Food and Nutrition Service to support the Child Nutrition Programs through training and technical assistance for foodservice, nutrition education for children and their caregivers, and school and community support for healthy eating and physical activity.

Team Nutrition's Goal is to improve children's lifelong eating and physical activity habits by using the principles of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPyramid. To accomplish this goal, Team Nutrition has developed this site and two sister sites:

 

Texas Association of School Nutrition
The web site for the professional association represents school food service in Texas.  TASN works closely with TDA in supporting Child Nutrition in the state.  We co-sponsor many educational workshops throughout the state and support a statewide certification program for food service employees.

 

Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA)
The Texas Department of Agriculture is now the home of the Food and Nutrition Division that has responsibility for the oversight of the Child Nutrition Programs. This site will link you to the Child Nutrition Information Management System (CNPIMS) and many other Child Nutrition sites of interest.

 

USDA Commodity Program for Schools
This is the site for information about USDA commodity products.  Commodity fact sheets are available for all products distributed by USDA.  Fact sheets include serving information, nutrition facts and storage requirements.
