Paraprofessionals Paraprofessionals - Sub Heading

 

 

 

Paraprofessionals play a significant role in the education of our students in public school. Region 10 provides training and technical assistance to district/charter schools in the areas of:

  • Meeting the Highly Qualified requirements of NCLB
  • Effective instructional strategies that support academic achievement

 

No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Requirements

 

Paraprofessionals who perform instructional duties must meet the following requirements to be considered highly qualified:

  • Completed at least two years of study at an institute of higher education and/or have an associate’s or higher degree; or
  • “have met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment-knowledge of , and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate. (PL-107-110, Sect. 1119)

 

Paraprofessionals who have Texas Educational Aide I, II, or III certification through the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) are still obligated to meet the requirements of NCLB.

 

Paraprofessional Responsibilities

 

  • Provide one-to-one or small group instruction to students
  • Provide instructional support to students in a library, lab or media center
  • Assist the teacher in classroom management
  • Assist in school-wide management
