Assessment of the Intern
  • Appraisal – School districts will assess interns as they do all teachers using the Professional Development Appraisal System (PDAS) or another assessment instrument as approved by the district. A cumulative rating of at least proficient is required for certification, with domains I-IV receiving not less than proficient scores.

 

  • The mentor teacher will conduct observations as described in the guidelines. Information gathered during observations will be for the purpose of providing feedback and guidance to interns regarding professional development.

 

  • The principal will complete and return progress reports describing the intern’s development in the classroom and on campus.

 

  • The Region 10 consultant will complete a minimum of four (4) observations to ascertain teaching performance and measure progress required for certification. In addition, the consultant will provide observation feedback, recommendations for improvement, and technical support. One observation may be scheduled; the others are unannounced.

 

The following criteria will be considered when recommending an intern for certification:

 

  • Exhibits professionalism such as working collaboratively with fellow teachers
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and a willingness to accept constructive criticism
  • Implements suggestions offered by colleagues
  • Participates actively in the school community
  • Submits paperwork in a timely manner
  • Participates in discussions during coursework and training
  • Maintains an organized classroom that is conducive to learning
  • Provides support for special needs students in the classroom
  • Accesses outside resources to enhance instruction i.e. speakers, community leaders
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and strategies
  • Implements and promotes the use of educational technology in the classroom

 

Verbal and written input will be collected from the mentor, the principal, and the Region 10 TPC consultant regarding all aspects of the internship.

 

Dismissal from the TPC Program

 

Employment Termination

If a TPC intern resigns or is terminated from the employing school district during the internship year, the intern will be dismissed from the program. Re-admittance and continuation in the program the following year will be determined based on the circumstances surrounding the resignation or termination of employment and must be approved by the TPC Advisory Board.

 

If an intern leaves full-time employment as a teacher at any time during the school year or is dismissed from the program, the intern will be responsible for prorated program fees. If allowed re-admittance to the TPC program, the intern will complete an additional year of internship at a prorated fee.

 

Criteria for Dismissal

An intern may be dismissed from the Region 10 TPC program at any time for failure to comply with the TPC Program Agreement and TPC Program Guidelines. Review this information and if you have any questions, contact your certification area consultant.
