Online Application:
A completed online application along with supporting documents must be submitted. A writing sample (narrative) for assessment of written communication skills is required to be completed during online application process. Bilingual or LOTE applicants will complete an additional writing sample in the target language.
College Degree:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a minimum overall grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Individuals who hold a foreign degree must have the equivalent of bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Transcripts must be translated and evaluated by an approved SBEC Transcript Evaluation Agency prior to submission.
Semester Hour Requirement:
Generalists (Including Bilingual and ESL): 12- 24 hours of university coursework within the four core areas and passing scores on the TExES Generalist content exam
Secondary (Content Specific): 12-24 hours with a passing score on TExES content exam
LOTE (Languages Other Than English): Spanish and French applicants must pass the ExCET exam and the TOPT. German and Latin applicants must present passing scores on the
ExCET
exam. Individuals seeking certification in Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Arabic and Russian must present passing scores on the ACTFL OPT and ACTFL WPT for the target language.
Special Education: 12-24 hours within the four core areas and passing scores on a Generalist content exam or the Special Education exam
Work Authorization:
Proof of valid work authorization is required if not a U.S. citizen
Pre- Admission Content Test:
You must demonstrate content proficiency by submitting passing scores on the Pre- Admission Content Test (PACT). Be sure to take the content test that correlates the specific certification area you are applying for. Click here for further instructions on registering for this test.
The basic skills requirement is fulfilled for individuals holding at least a bachelor's degree from a regionally U.S. accredited institution of higher education. Individuals presenting a foreign transcript evaluation indicating the equivalent of a bachelor's degree must demonstrate college-level through one of the following:
1. Holding a master's degree (or second bachelor's degree) from a regionally accredited U.S. institution of higher learning
or
2. Meeting the passing standard on one of the following within the last five years:

Please be aware that State Board for Educator Certification rule indicates that persons who have taught on a permit for three years or a one-year non-renewable permit for two years are not eligible for internship and therefore are not eligible for the Region 10 Program.
