Option 1:
Three hour online module, followed by a:
One six hour (full day) face-to-face session for mentors
The TAP process addresses support of early career teachers regarding planning and professionalism as well as in instruction and classroom management. Participants will practice observation and feedback processes. This module is best offered prior to the beginning of the school year. In that way, mentors will be ready to support early career teachers immediately. Each participant will receive a TxBESS Activity Profile, two TxBESS Frameworks, and session handouts.
Option 2:
Two six hour (full day) face-to-face sessions
Day One provides an introduction to the TxBESS Framework and addresses: Mentoring Novice Teachers, Phases of First Year Teacher, Principles of Adult Learning, Building a Partnership, and Categories of Mentor Support.
Day Two focuses on mentor support behaviors and the implementation of the TxBESS Activity Profile (TAP).
This two and a half day training includes:
Half day TxBESS Activity Profile Sessions Presenter Module
Two days of district co-training
Results in certification of local trainers for the TxBESS Activity Profile. Prerequisite is that the presenter attended the initial TxBESS Activity Profile Sessions.
Three hour face-to-face seminar
Focuses on the critically important role of administrators in the support and retention of early career teachers and their mentors. On-going technical and consultative services will be provided.
Topics include Clearing the Classroom Management Hurdle; Observing and Gathering Data; Feedback, Reflections, and Professional Conversations; Positive Feedback and Motivation.
