Wireless Internet Consortium

The Wireless Internet Consortium is moving forward with 38 member districts. Region 10 Education Service Center will lead the consortium, file for E-rate discounts and act as fiscal agent. The RFP for wireless broadband Internet service is now being written. It will be referenced in the Form 470 which will be submitted May 23rd. The telecommunications company winning the bid will be announced after July 14th.

Wireless Internet Consortium will meet districts’ short-term and long-term needs, beginning fall, 2009. This broadband wireless Internet service qualifies for E-rate discounts and will provide significantly more Internet bandwidth than any solution currently available throughout Region 10’s service area. The network is designed to support 20 Mbps of dedicated Internet bandwidth to each district participating in the consortium.
