Assistive Technology for Students with Visual Impairments

Assistive Technology for Students with Visual Impairment, is a Region 10 Education Service Center online learning course that reviews the adapted devices used by the blind and visually impaired. Online learners will review classifications of assistive technology—both low and high tech—and explore how each classification may best serve the student with visual disabilities. This course also covers legislative background and federal funding. Interactive learning activities are presented within seven modules. Parents of children with visual impairments will see the scope of possibilities for their child. Additionally, AT Teams will benefit from the course content as they help guide decisions regarding access to the curriculum. For all special education staff who have a blind or visually impaired student in the classroom, this online teacher training is a primer for helping the student gain independence for life.
