WHATATEACHER 2019

Vicki Mason-Foederer
Garland ISD

Vicki Mason-Foederer photoVicki has 30 years of experience teaching PE and Adapted PE in Brownsville, Dallas, and Garland ISD. Through her leadership and service, Vicki has impacted the field of APE. Vicki advocates for APE within her district through promoting the benefits of the program to other professionals including but not limited to teachers, therapists, and administrators. She is always willing to take the time to help and give advice to any APE teacher, in her district or not. Just go to a conference with her and she is the first person to jump in, start sharing ideas, and collaborating with her fellow adapted physical educators. She has served as a presenter throughout the state of Texas sharing her knowledge accumulated from her many years as an adapted physical educator and promoting best practices for APE.

Beyond that, what makes her a great leader is that she demonstrates merits of APE through her service. She takes time outside of work to volunteer for Region 10 events and to serve Special Olympics through various roles including committee member, trainer, directing area track competition, and head of delegation. When a problem needs to be solved, she immediately jumps in to help solve it such as when she previously ran Camp Life, a summer camp for students with visual impairments.

Vicki has been instrumental in developing and facilitating the following programs during her professional career:
Young Athletes Training Program, Motor Activities Training Program, School Based Special Olympics, Regional and State Special Olympics, Partner PE, Kid-Netic Games, Sports Extravaganza, Camp Life for kids with Visual Impairments

Thank you for all you do for our students Vicki!
