We have currently met the quota for the Fall 2018/Spring 2019 Cohort.
We are no longer accepting applications.
This will be the last cohort that will be offered for the alternative certification School Counseling Program.
The State Board of Education has adopted the following requirement for the Standard School Counselor Certificate: All school counselors must hold, at a minimum, a 48-hour master's degree in counseling from an accredited institution of higher education that at the time was accredited or otherwise approved by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (Texas Administrative Code §239.20 (2018)).
Due to this new requirement, we will not be accepting additional cohort applications.
- Observations (12 hours required) begin upon acceptance.
Attendance at coursework is very important for success in this fast-paced school counselor program. When an absence is a scheduled event, the absence form must be completed at least one week before the absence for program approval so that a make-up assignment can be given. When an illness requires an absence form the form should be submitted within 3 days, and a make-up assignment will be given. Only 6 hours of absences are allowable in this program.
