On September 3rd, 2021, the State Board of Education (SBOE) gave final approval for updates to the Dyslexia Handbook. Some of the updates to the Dyslexia Handbook may require LEAs to make policy, procedure, and practice changes. The updated Dyslexia Handbook will go into effect on February 10th, 2022.

Dyslexia Handbook 2021 Update   Approved for second reading and final adoption by the Texas State Board of Education at its September 3, 2021 meeting to be effective February 10, 2022.

Please note:  House Bill 3928 was passed by the 88th Texas Legislature (Regular Session) and impacts dyslexia evaluation, identification, and instruction. While the agency works to update the necessary materials, be aware that the law is effective immediately. The State Board of Education's proposed timeline for its required changes will be communicated as that timeline is determined and communicated to the agency.

The handbook contains guidelines for school districts to follow as they identify and provide services for students with dyslexia. In addition, information regarding the state's dyslexia statutes and their relation to various federal laws is included.

The following Texas Administrative Codes and Texas Education Codes have been updated since the 2018 update of the Dyslexia Handbook was published.  Please refer to the current versions below:
