Instructional Strategic Planning: Overview

In this session, we will define instructional strategic planning, break it down into its various phases, and determine next steps for leaders. The intended audience for this session is district and/or campus administrators.

Instructional Strategic Planning: Environment/Context

Leaders will discuss action steps to set the stage for Instructional Strategic Priorities. Leaders will understand the purpose of the needs assessment determine the current strengths and needs of the organization. Leaders understand the role environment and context plays in implementing instructional strategic priorities. Leaders develop next steps for their own instructional strategic planning processes.

Instructional Strategic Planning: Goal Setting

This module will guide participants through the action steps to develop and evaluate instructional programming goals. Participants will engage in activities that will highlight the information to consider when developing goals and the process needed to evaluate and prioritize them.

Instructional Strategic Planning: Theory of Action

This module will explore what it means to develop a Theory of Action for the instructional strategic plan. Participants will discuss how to identify the desired outcomes, identify the desired changes to create those outcomes, and highlight the strategies to influence those changes. Participants will understand how the Theory of Action focuses the planning process and makes everything they do intentional and tightly aligned to their desired outcomes.

Instructional Strategic Planning: Defining Metrics

This module will guide participants through developing and identifying formative and summative metrics for progress measurement. Participants will discuss the importance of alignment of goals, strategies and the metric identified to evaluate progress.

Instructional Strategic Planning: Data collection and Planning

This module will guide participants through the process of thinking through the data collection and planning process. Discussions will support participants to critically think through the who, what, when and how of data collection.

Instructional Strategic Planning: Work Planning

This module will guide participants to define key actions between milestones on a weekly basis to keep the program on track.  Participants will determine supports needed for key adult behaviors that significantly impact the fidelity of implementation.

Instructional Strategic Planning: Implementation and Tracking

This module will explore processes to support strategy or strategies to ensure fidelity to implementation of the strategic plan. Participants will discuss accountability for implementation and tracking.

Instructional Strategic Planning: Review and Revise

This module will identify practices that participants can plan for reflection and annual deep-dives to identify practices to keep and identify those practices to not continue. Participants will discuss incorporating using the feedback loop.
