Overview: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is the state agency that oversees primary and secondary public education. TEA is headed by the commissioner of education and strives to improve outcomes for all public school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems.

In 2018, TEA worked with stakeholders across Texas to develop the Strategic Plan for Special Education in Texas. This plan was informed by more than 7,000 voices and lays out an ambitious set of activities aimed at dramatically improving special education programs in Texas.

Overview: In an effort to provide special education information and resources for stakeholders, as well as improve partnerships between schools and families, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) created what is called SPEDTex. Interactive features for visitors within SPEDTex, allow information and resources to increase awareness of disabilities and special education processes to be found. SPEDTex can also assist families in learning more about the Supplemental Special Education Services (SSES) program and how it can help their family.

Overview: Region 10’s Parent and Family Engagement is committed to providing information and resources to support families and schools which can help strengthen home-school partnerships, foster collaboration as well as aid in promoting positive outcomes for students with disabilities.

Overview: Community Resource Coordination Groups (CRCGs) are county-based groups of local partners and community members that work with parents, caregivers, youth and adults to identify and coordinate services and supports, including behavioral health, basic needs and caregiver support. They help people whose needs can't be met by one single agency and who would benefit from interagency coordination.

Overview: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) provides a Resource Locator, with SPEDTex, for family, school, and community members to assist in finding special education resources for a variety of topics like Child Find, Accommodations, Inclusion, Transition, and more.
