Mentor Information

The assignment of a mentor teacher is a collaborative effort between Region 10 Certification and the campus. Mentors are assigned by school administrators, and certified teachers interested in becoming mentors should notify their campus administrator.

Once the Mentor Information Form is received by the Region 10 Certification Program, mentors will be enrolled in the required Region 10 Certification online professional development course, which includes Online Learning (MyPro) modules.

Mentor Role

The role of the mentor is to provide continuous support and guidance throughout the teaching practicum. Mentors assist Certification candidates by offering both instructional and emotional support to help them succeed in their teaching journey. Their responsibilities include:

  • Observing and providing constructive feedback on classroom practices.

  • Guiding the development of lesson plans and instructional strategies.

  • Assisting with classroom management techniques and strategies.

  • Supporting the candidate’s professional growth, addressing challenges, and offering advice.

  • Helping candidates gradually assume full teaching responsibilities, including managing a full day of instruction.

By collaborating with mentors, candidates gain valuable insights and practical experience, preparing them for success as future educators.

Mentors assigned to work with Region 10 Certification interns will receive 25 hours of professional development.
