RDA and Preschool LRE
In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004, schools are responsible for providing students who are receiving special education services the opportunity to participate in high-quality preschool programs through their least restrictive environment (LRE). The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act requires that students with disabilities have access to the general curriculum, be involved in the general curriculum, and progress in the general curriculum.
Because providing preschool classes is not a requirement for local education agencies, finding natural environments for preschool-aged children with disabilities to receive special education services can be a challenge for school districts.
