Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees

Congratulations to the Lovejoy Independent School District Board of Trustees for being named the 2026 Region 10 ESC 2026 Outstanding School Board. The annual award recognizes a governing body that exemplifies excellence in policy, planning, and community engagement, with an unwavering focus on serving students.

The Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees includes Board President Julie McLaughlin (Place 1), Board Vice President Mark Wheelis (Place 4), Secretary and Master Trustee Marvin Bobo (Place 5), Aubrey Stock (Place 2), Jessica Perroni (Place 3), Jason Jaynes (Place 6), and Barrett Owens, Trustee and Past President (Place 7).

The Trustees earned the honor through a deliberate, collaborative approach to policy development, long-range strategic planning, and transparent decision-making. Operating as a unified "Team of Eight," the Board has built a strong partnership with Superintendent Katie Kordel and district leadership while actively engaging students, staff, parents, and community members in shaping the district's future. Members have championed innovative learning opportunities, supported student voice through the Student-Superintendent Connection Councils, expanded community involvement through Leadership Lovejoy, and prioritized regular "Celebration of Learning" presentations that keep achievement at the center of every meeting.

The results speak for themselves: the district and all six campuses hold "A" accountability ratings, Lovejoy has received the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation's Best Communities for Music Education designation for a seventh consecutive year, and it has sustained strong performance across academics, fine arts, athletics, and college readiness. Trustees also steered the district through a successful 2025 bond election, which earned overwhelming community support and will fund facility improvements, safety enhancements, and future growth.

"What impressed our selection committee most was the discipline behind this Board's process: 47 policy updates over two years, each one worked through in public before a vote was ever taken," said Dr. Jana Melsheimer, Executive Director of Region 10. "That kind of transparency, sustained year after year, is exactly what strong governance looks like. Just as important, every decision was grounded in one guiding principle: what is best for students."

Superintendent Katie Kordel credited the Trustees for cultivating a culture where students thrive.

"The Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees leads with heart, vision, and an unwavering commitment to doing what is best for each Lovejoy ISD student,” Kordel shared. “Their thoughtful governance, genuine partnership, and dedication have furthered Lovejoy ISD’s legacy of excellence in the midst of unprecedented challenges."

As the 2026 Region 10 Outstanding School Board, Lovejoy ISD will advance to the statewide Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) School Board Awards competition, where finalists will be considered for the Texas Outstanding School Board award later this year.
