Region 10 is proud to celebrate Furlough Middle School eighth grade science teacher Heather Ray, who has been named a finalist for the 2027 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Ray is one of six outstanding educators from across Texas selected as a finalist in the 2027 Texas Teacher of the Year program. The group includes three elementary and three secondary teachers who were recognized for their dedication to students, excellence in the classroom, and impact on their school communities.

As a finalist, Ray will be interviewed by a panel of judges in October. Following the interviews, two state level winners will be selected: one Elementary Teacher of the Year and one Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Ray received the news during a special surprise celebration with Terrell ISD leaders, Furlough Middle School staff, Region 10 representatives, and members of the Terrell community gathered to recognize this incredible achievement.

The celebration continued with an additional surprise for Ray: a Ford Bronco generously gifted by Platinum Ford and Adam Vincze. Their continued support of Terrell ISD and local educators helped make the recognition even more memorable.

Region 10 is incredibly proud to see one of its educators representing Furlough Middle School, Terrell ISD, and the entire Region 10 education community at the state level.

Congratulations, Ms. Ray, on this well deserved recognition. Your passion for teaching, dedication to your students, and commitment to education are an inspiration to the communities you serve. Region 10 is proud to cheer you on as you continue this journey toward Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year.
